The Department of Town and Country Planning (TCP) held a walkathon and planted 50 saplings to commemorate the department’s golden jubilee celebration, also in conjunction with World Town Planning Day at the Government Complex, Jalan Airport Lama yesterday.
Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid led the tree planting to commemorate the department’s 50th anniversary, organised in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation.
A small-medium enterprise (SME) bazaar was also held as part of efforts through the land use planning in support of SME development.
A showcase exhibition on the department’s ‘Pedestrian Masterplan and Green Initiatives’ was also held.
Permanent Secretary (Land Use, Planning and Environment) at the Ministry of Development (MoD) Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak and Permanent Secretary (Infrastructure, Housing and Professional) at the MoD Ir Haji Amer Hishamuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Zakaria were also present.
In 1967, the Town Planning Section was formed within the Development Department and became the Department of Town and Country Planning in 1972 with its first office in Jalan Kumbang Pasang.
