4,885 cases reported, two deaths confirmed from COVID-19

The country confirmed 4,885 COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total number of active cases in the country to 35,617, said Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah.

The minister, chairing the press conference in place of Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, who is under quarantine order and following Ministry of Health (MoH) protocols, said 4,100 cases were from antigen rapid test (ART) results uploaded to the BruHealth application and 785 were from 4,400 RT-PCR laboratory tests performed in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, minister said six COVID-19 cases have died, two categorised as death due to COVID-19, two were not due to COVID-19 and two others are under investigation.

The minister expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. “We pray that their souls will receive blessings and are placed among the pious,” he said.

Six cases with COVID-19 are in Category 4, requiring oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring. Eight cases are in Category Five, requiring assistance of artificial ventilation and treatment at the Intensive Care unit.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew said 2,457 cases have recovered, bringing the total number of recovered cases in the country to 40,782 cases.

The bed occupancy rate in isolation centres nationwide is 9.8 per cent, where 354 active cases are placed in isolation centres, he said, adding that 35,263 positive cases are undergoing home self-isolation.

The minister said as of Wednesday, 55.3 per cent of the population had received three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine through the National COVID-19 Vaccination Programme.

Also present was the Permanent Secretary at the MoH Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional) at the MoH Dr Ang Swee Hui.
