The Land Transport Department issued 45 compound fines on commercial vehicle drivers for offences under Chapter 68 of the Road Traffic Regulations detected during operations last month.
In total, 22 operations were conducted targetting the Muara- Tutong Highway, Lambak fly-over, Kampong Kupang and commercial areas of Gadong, Serusop and Jalan Tutong. Operations included patrols, roadblocks, checking for illegal taxis and buses, as well as inspection of foreign vehicle stickers.
Of the 45 compound fines issued, 31 per cent were for the offence of driving a vehicle posing safety hazard, 13 per cent for tampering with speed warning devices, 11 per cent for illegal car modifications and 11 per cent for driving a commercial vehicle without valid declarations.
Motorists are reminded to abide by the road rules for their own safety and that of others, while company managers or proprietors must remind their commercial vehicle drivers to abide by the rules and to practise good driving ethics.
