419kg of waste collected at beach clean-up

Fifty-nine bags of plastic, bottles and other rubbish totalling 419 kilogrammes were collected during a beach cleaning activity at the Meragang Beach yesterday, conducted by the Bandar Seri Begawan Indian Association (BSBIA) in conjunction with the 75th year of India’s independence (India @75), with the approval and support of the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe).

Over 50 participants from BSBIA and volunteers joined the event.

It was the third time the association carried out a social activity in collaboration with a government agency.

BSBIA executive committee and management committee along with association members and volunteers took part in the clean-up.

BSBIA President NM Mubarak said the objective of the event was part of the association’s initiative to give back to the Brunei community.

The campaign was aimed at raising public awareness on the need to keep the environment clean and tidy in a bid to make the planet pollution free.

The president also thanked the event coordinators Venkatesh Ramachandran and Ramkumar Sundar for their support.
