40 RBAF-SAF junior officers join interaction programme

The 17th Junior Officers Interaction Programme (JIP) 2020 between the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) was held in Brunei Darussalam from February 7-9.

The programme was participated by 20 RBAF officers led by Lieutenant Colonel Haji Mushiri Zulkhibri bin Haji Awang and 20 SAF officers led by LTC Ng Yen Meng.

Upon arrival, the SAF delegation were greeted by Colonel Dr Jefri bin Haji Abdul Razak, Chairman of the JIP 2020 Programme at a welcoming reception at the Officers’ Mess, Bolkiah Garrison. Both RBAF and SAF delegations visited the RBAF Museum, followed with a friendly bowling tournament in the evening.

On the second day, the participants visited the Ulu Temburong National Park and rode along the Temburong River using traditional long boats. The day concluded with an official dinner at the Officers’ Mess in Berakas Garrison.

Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Khairul Hamed bin Awang Haji Lampoh was the guest of honour at the dinner.

The RBLF Commander reiterated the importance of fostering camaraderie at Junior Officer-level as a means of enhancing the continued close ties between the two Armed Forces.

On the last day of the programme, the participants visited Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, followed by a riverboat tour, a visit to Kampong Ayer Cultural Gallery and a local home where they sampled traditional food such as ambuyat and traditional kueh.

First conducted in 1996, the RBAF-SAF JIP was initiated to promote mutual understanding, communication and establishing relationships among junior officers who would be future leaders of RBAF and SAF, through informal interactions. The last JIP held in Brunei Darussalam was in 2014.
