Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin yesterday interacted with participants of the Peer Empathise and Embracing Resilience (PEER) programme during a tour of their creative arts exhibition at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
The minister also presided over the PEER programme closing ceremony, where he presented certificates to the 36 participants.
Permanent Secretary (Community and Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari and Community Development Department (JAPEM) officials also attended.
Nurhasnina binti Sambong, as a representative of the participants, delivered a speech on the benefits of the programme.
Following the certificate presentation, the minister toured the creative arts exhibition, which included works of calligraphy, posters and handicraft.
The three-day programme was organised by the MCYS, through JAPEM’s Counselling Unit, aimed at having youth as a support system to peers experiencing mental health issues, while also equipping them with the skills to identify mental health issues, solving problems through discussion and expressing themselves through creative arts.
Themed ‘Kindness and Self-care’, which is in line with the theme of the World Mental Health Day celebration, the programme is also a collaboration with the aAlumni of PEER of 2019, the Health Promotion Centre (HPC) under the Ministry of Health (MoH), Al-Amin Recovery Management, Cureheart and Art by Nazeerah.
