A list of 30 individuals were shortlisted to lead the Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) for year 2020-2022 following the success of the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2019 at the Mawar Room of the Mulia Hotel yesterday.

With a large turnout of 59, the AGM also saw the amendment made to the constitution of BBA whereby in the next election, green IC holders are allowed to vote but cannot be voted. The amendment also requires members to pay an additional BND10 of annual fee.

Chairman of BBA Kwang Ming Heng said, “On behalf of the current executive committee, we would like to thank BBA members who placed their trust in us. We gave our best efforts for the past three years and we are proud of our achievements. Nevertheless, there is more room for improvement and we wish all the best to the incoming committee members.”

He also thanked members of the association for attending the AGM.

Meanwhile, BBA Secretary General Lim Fung highlighted the association’s achievements in the past years. He revealed that BBA receives a huge increase of financial stability this year compared to in 2017, with increasing members standing at 235.

In tournaments, Brunei won silver in the 2017 Borneo Cup in Miri; won gold in the 2018 Borneo Cup; and silver in the Borneo Cup 2019 in Kota Kinabalu. Brunei teams under the association also competed in the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) pre-qualifiers in Thailand and FIBA under-20 friendly game in Cambodia.

BBA has also organised FIBA coaching coach Level 1 in December 2018 that saw 28 people taking part. In July 2019, a FIBA Referee Clinic was conducted in Brunei. BBA has also introduced the youth basketball academy which is conducted every Sunday.

The current committee will serve their term until December 31. The meeting to appoint the new executive committee members will be held next month.
