PONI Divers hosted its first blood donation drive at Serasa Watersports Complex yesterday, marking its final event for its Community Outreach Week.

The drive invited members of the public and organisations from around the Muara and Serasa areas and successfully collected 29 pints of blood.

The donors comprised staff from the Department of Youth and Sports, Muara Port Company, Department of Electrical Services, The Coffee Bean Brunei, members of the public and tourists as well as staff of Poni Divers including Managing Director Mohd Tahsin Wong bin Abdullah and Business Development Director Anna Aziz.

A tourist from Belgium, Amel Labadi, who is travelling in Brunei with his friend after kayaking at Serasa Beach with Poni Divers, also donated his blood.

“I’ve donated in Belgium before, so I thought why not. The procedure only takes 20 minutes and reaps many benefits,” said Labadi.

Mohd Tahsin Wong said that companies can host its own Community Outreach Week and carry out activities that would fit its business and vision.

“If more companies invest in this, the effect can be multiplied by reaching a much wider community. We will continue to host such events every year,” he added.

This month, Poni Divers will also assist the surfing competition event – Surf Fest – for providing beach safety at Tungku Beach on January 27.

As part of Community Outreach Week, Poni Divers also sponsored a group of orphans for watersports and BBQ in Serasa Beach, co-hosted a beach clean-up at Serasa Beach with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), and organised a general cleaning event at Seria Old Folks Home with Expression Music.
