26 teams aim high in basketball tourney

A TOTAL of 12 teams in the Open Category and 14 teams in the Under-16 Category are competing in the Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS) Alumni 3×3 Basketball Tournament officially launched yesterday at the Batu Bersurat Basketball Court.

CHMS Alumni Chairman Tan Guan Siong in his welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony said, “This is the first time the association has hosted a 3×3 tournament and I believe there is still room for improvement. We will do our best to complete the task of organising this competition.”

Organising Chairman Chan Swee Hing and Chairman of the Brunei Basketball Association Kwang Ming Heng were also present.

According to the Chairman of CHMS Alumni, the tournament’s purpose “is to provide a platform for our youth, especially children of our members, to play basketball as well as to promote a healthy lifestyle through exercise”.

He welcomed individuals who have completed their studies and graduated from CHMS to join the CHMS Alumni Association. Samuel Jong led the reading of the oath on fair game for athletes.

Before the tip-off, the Chairman of CHMS Alumni was introduced to each of the participating teams.
