258 emergency calls from Jan to March

The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) responded to 258 emergency calls from January to March this year, including one case of drowning.

The emergency calls comprised 107 for fallen trees, 45 for landslides, 24 for lost or missing people, 13 for pumping out excess water and one for a drowning case.

Meanwhile, there were 23 emergency calls for forest fires where 14.85 hectares of forest were destroyed and 45 for bush fires that destroyed 19.24 hectares of land.
