24 Taleban fighters surrender in Afghanistan

MAIMANA, AFGHANISTAN (XINHUA) – Twenty-four Taleban militants yesterday surrendered in Afghanistan’s northern Faryab province, an army source confirmed.

“A Taleban local leader named Mohammad Akran together with 23 of his fighters surrendered to Afghan Regional Army forces in Gurziwan district, Faryab province yesterday morning,” Hanif Rezai, spokesman of army Corps 209 Shaheen based in the region, told Xinhua.

They have brought some amount of ammunition and more than 20 guns, he added.

With the former insurgents’ surrender, peace and stability would be further strengthened in the territory, the statement said.

He also urged the Taleban to denounce violence and join the peace and national reconciliation process.
