A TOTAL of 224 compound fines were issued for driving overloaded heavy vehicles in 2017 and of these, 133 at Mukim Serasa.
The staggering figure of the offences of overloaded heavy vehicles in Mukim Serasa was highlighted by YB Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, the Minister of Communications while responding to a question asked by Legislative Council (LegCo) member and Village Head of Kampong Masjid Lama, Pekan Muara, Sabun and Pelumpong, YB Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman, on the upgrading of road from Serasa industrial area to Pulau Muara Besar at the 14th LegCo session yesterday.
He said, “The Ministry of Communications through Land Transport Department monitors commercial vehicles, especially those overloaded ones. It is one of the factors contributing to the damaged roads in Serasa.”
He said the Ministry of Communications with its whole of nation approach with the Ministry of Development, Land Transport Department, Public Works Department and other agencies, “has conducted a number of dialogues and meetings with companies in the private sector who are involved in Serasa industrial areas to raise awareness on the offences under the Road Traffic Act”.
