His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Chancellor of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali has consented to the establishment of the Faculty of Islamic Technology at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), based on Al-Quran Al-Kareem as a source of knowledge, including science and technology.

In delivering his titah at the 10th Hafl Al-Takharruj (convocation ceremony) of UNISSA to some 292 graduates at the International Convention Centre (ICC) yesterday, the monarch said, “This latest exploration by UNISSA is a proactive effort to discover more stores of knowledge from Al-Quran and Al-Hadith. It is my hope that the establishment of this new faculty will generate research of great value.”

Earlier, His Majesty said, “This year’s Hafl Al-Takharruj is slightly different compared to those of previous years, for a reason which is already known.

“I regard this year’s Hafl Al-Takharruj as very meaningful and historic, as it is exactly 10 years since UNISSA produced its first graduates, and now the handwritten UNISSA Mushaf which was borne aloft for the first time during this year’s Hafl Al-Takharruj ceremony.”

The monarch said, “I am pleased to note that the UNISSA Mushaf was completely handwritten and designed by locals. This is a very meaningful achievement, as well as a stimulus to Islamic teachings in this country. I would like to congratulate and express my appreciation to the Supreme Committee for the handwritten UNISSA Mushaf, as well to all those involved in making it a success.

“One decade of Haflut Al Takharruj has passed; there can be no doubt that UNISSA has attained numerous successes. However, it does not mean the end of all efforts, as education does not end there, but should continue to be more dynamic and progressive.

“Educational needs in the past decade were completely different from those in the current digital phase. In this digital era, the world of education requires teaching and learning approaches that are disparate from the previous methods.

“On this auspicious occasion, I wish to congratulate the undergraduates who have completed their studies at UNISSA. I hope that they will be more proactive, instead of being mere spectators. They should seize every existing opportunity and cultivate an inclination towards self-development, as obtaining a degree is not the end of all things in the constant search for knowledge.

“Islam views the pursuit of knowledge as a lifelong obligation. I wish to congratulate and acknowledge all of UNISSA’s workforce which comprise Council and Senate members, Rector, Core Officers, Academic Teaching Workforce, as well as the university officers and staff for their services and efforts in making the 10th Hafl Al Takharruj a success. May Allah the Almighty bless them with multiple rewards.”

Also in attendance was His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Pro-Chancellor of UNISSA.
