Royalty attend convocation ceremony

His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office consented to grace the 8th Haflut Takharruj (Convocation Ceremony) of the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas yesterday.

Accompanying His Royal Highness was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik.

Their Royal Highnesses were greeted by Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar as the Chairman of ITQSHHB Board and members of executive committee and working committee of the 8th ITQSHHB Haflut Takharruj.

The event began with recitation of Surah Ibrahim by graduate Abdul Haziq Syarafuddin bin Abdul Habib and Intisari Al-Quran was read by Mohamad Sabiq bin Haji Sulaiman.

The minister in his welcoming speech said the success of ITQSHHB should motivate the graduates to acquire skills aside from memorising Al-Quran and religious knowledge to ensure the country has educated citizens.

The minister said it can be achieved by having general academic studies at the institute.

Following a sabda, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince presented ‘Aliyah Qira’at Diploma certificates to 39 graduates comprising 22 graduated with Mumtaz, 13 with Jayyid Jiddan and four with Jayyid.

The event ended with a Doa Selamat read by Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
