Myanmar receives three million advance votes for general elections

YANGON (XINHUA) – Myanmar has received about 75,000 advance votes by its citizens living abroad while the number of local advance votes reached about three million so far for the general elections, an official from the Union Election Commission told Xinhua on Friday.

“We have collected about 75,000 votes after the overseas advance voting concluded on October 26 while we have received about three million domestic advance votes as of November 3,” said Director General of the Commission Khin Maung Oo.

Civil servants who need to perform their duties outside their constituencies, citizens who have to travel on the day of elections, election candidates, senior citizens and those who cannot go to polling stations and detainees were eligible for advance voting which ended yesterday.
