Minister attends climate change forum, workshop

Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong presided the opening of the Forum and Workshop on the Role of Youth in Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) at the Youth Centre in the capital yesterday.

Sixty participants, aged 18-40 from local youth organisations are attending the two-day forum and workshop organised by the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) in collaboration with the Brunei Darussalam Climate Change Secretariat, the Meteorological Department, the Forestry Department, the Youth and Sports Department, the Ministry of Health (MoH), the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society and the coordinating members of disaster preparedness recognised by the National Disaster Management Centre.

Participants are briefed on CCA and DRR efforts in the global, regional and national levels to gain insights into the approaches and action taken to achieve the aspiration of a resilient community.

Legislative Council (LegCo) member and Co-Founder/Community Engagement Director of Green Brunei Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari is also involved in the event.

Permanent secretaries from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS), as well as deputy permanent secretaries from the MoHA were also present at the opening ceremony.
