The Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentence a local man to a 12 months’ jail after he was found guilty of outraging the modesty of a young girl.

Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman found Prosecutor Siti Nurjauinah binti Haji Kula’s case to have proven beyond reasonable doubt against Haji Ismail bin Haji Ibrahim, 57, of an offence that occurred at the defendant’s house in July 2017. Defence counsel Pengiran Khairul Nizam bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Yassin pleaded for a probation order or a lower jail sentence, citing the delay in bringing the case to a close.

The Magistrate dismissed the application highlighting the aggravating factors of the case. The court took 15 months’ jail sentence as a starting point and reduced it to 12 months in observation of the delay.
