Much has been discussed about road safety in the country, and the concerns commonly brought up include the driver not wearing a seatbelt, driving while using a mobile phone and not turning on headlamps when it’s dark.
However, in my opinion, the single biggest issue is the universal failure to get children to wear seatbelts.
The frequency of this violation is staggering. I was recently driving near a school in the Tutong District where about 10 cars in front of me had children in them. Not a single child had the seatbelt on.
I had similar observations in Gadong and Seria.
I believe that the responsibility rests on parents and teachers, to educate children on the importance of wearing a seatbelt in preventing injuries during a collision.
