Department of Adat Istiadat Negara official and Special Grade Artist Haji Md Abidin bin Haji Rashid was named the winner of the ASEAN Summit 2021 logo design competition in a ceremony at the Information Department yesterday.

The 54-year-old’s design incorporated 10 petals in a circular shape signifying unity, friendship and solidarity among the ASEAN member states.

A blooming flower reflects ASEAN’s diversity and uniqueness, where all member states unite to ensure the well-being and quality of life of its peoples. This will contribute to the sustainability, resilience and prosperity of the ASEAN region.

The logo also features Bunga Ayer Muleh, a traditional Brunei design.

Haji Md Abidin said the logo was inspired by the traditional ASEAN handshake – a ‘cross-armed’ group handshake by ASEAN leaders to commentate each meeting or summit.

The logo will be featured in various materials and high-profile events throughout 2021 as Brunei will become host-country for the ASEAN Summit.
