Employment Order 2009 violators to be fined

Enforcement officers from the Law Enforcement Division, Labour Department conducted an operation at Gerai Sumbangsih Mulia in Kampong Beribi and a restaurant in Kampong Batu Bersurat on November 3.

Codenamed Operasi Sanggah 217/2020, it enforced and ensured that employers follow Employment Order 2009.

The officers inspected the stalls at 9.30am and found offences such as foreigners working not as stipulated in their licences as well as employers giving no overtime payments and not providing written contracts for the services of local workers.

For the offence of misuse of job position, a violation of the Foreign Worker Licence, violators are liable to compound fines of BND600 for the first offence and BND900 for the second offence. Meanwhile, for the offence of not providing written contracts for the services of workers, violators are liable to compound fines of BND600 for the first offence and BND900 for the second offence.

Violators are also liable to compound fines of BND160 for the first offence and BND320 for the second offence, for assigning employees more working hours than stipulated in their contracts.

The Labour Department reminded the public to abide by the Employment Order, 2009 such as preparing contracts, timely salary payments and allocation of comfortable and clean quarters while also highlighting to employers to refrain from abusing their foreign workers’ licences.
