A signing ceremony for the production of fire retardant personal protective equipment (PPE) made by Bruneians was held between Brunei Shell Petroleum Co Sdn Bhd (BSP) and Petrofes Sdn Bhd at BSP Headquarters yesterday.
BSP Managing Director and Shell Country Chair in Brunei Agnete Johnsgaard-Lewis, BSP Finance Director Rob Van Velden and BSP Head of HSE and Security Haji Osmera bin Haji Othman were present.
Petrofes, a local company actively involved in the trading and retail business, will produce and supply ‘Made By Bruneians’ fire-retardant PPE including coveralls, tudongs and balaclavas to BSP.
BSP In-Country Value Manager Hajah Rosita binti Haji Hassan said the collaboration is part of BSP’s commitment to people and country that supports the growth of local companies.
Through this partnership, there is a high potential for Petrofes to expand their clientele in the future, according to a press statement.
“The Brunei Shell Joint Venture companies and their business partners are the biggest private sector group in the oil and gas industry in the country. The demand for PPE such as coveralls is potentially high in this sector,” said Hajah Rosita. She said there are employment opportunities for Bruneians to produce the PPE in the country.
“I have asked a few major business partners, if they are willing to buy locally made coveralls, and so far, we have received encouraging response,” said Hajah Rosita.
“What is important to these companies are that the products meet the required quality standards and are competitively priced,” she added.
Petrofes Sdn Bhd Managing Director Effendi bin Haji Said said, “As a new player in the industry, we are excited to become a robust local company that stimulates the country’s economic growth through employing local workforce to manufacture our products.”
Petrofes also hopes to train more Bruneians in acquiring the necessary skills to work in the PPE manufacturing industry.
