Companies hit with compound fines

Two companies were slapped with compound fines in violation of the Minor Offences Act during a routine monitoring conducted by the Law Enforcement Division, Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board in Belait District yesterday.

One company was issued with a BND200 compound fine for improper disposal of waste in public areas, while another company was issued with a BND200 compound fine for leaving rubbish outside of its premises without a valid permit, offences under Section 12(1)(a), Chapter 30 of the Minor Offences Act.

The offenders are required to settle their fines within seven days or risk a further fine of BND1,000 or a month’s imprisonment for the first convicted offence. Subsequent offences may lead to a fine of BND3,000 and up to three months’ jail term.
