A cleaner will learn his fate tomorrow after he pleaded guilty to recording a video of a woman inside the female toilet of a government primary school in the Brunei-Muara District.

DPP Raihan Nabilah binti Haji Ahmad Ghazali informed Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid that 42-year-old Malaysian Ruzaili bin Salleh, having resided in Brunei following his marriage to a local since 2012, was employed at the school as a cleaner for a year.

The defendant, while cleaning outside the toilet on October 28 at noon, noticed someone in the toilet. He took out his mobile phone and recorded the person through the window.

The woman, noticing the phone, screamed, and Ruzaili ran away. He later erased the video recording from his phone.

The victim told her colleagues at the staffroom about the incident and suspected the defendant as she saw him prior to entering the toilet.

The school principal confronted the defendant inside the storeroom. He denied any wrongdoing.

The defendant’s phone was taken and identified by the victim to be similar to the one she saw earlier at the window.

A police report was lodged leading to Ruzaili’s arrest where he admitted that he committed the act for his sexual gratification.
