The new Day Centre Building for Psychiatric Services at Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Belait District was officially opened yesterday. It was built to improve the care and treatment of mental health patients.

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar officiated the opening ceremony of the new building donated by the Mental Health Order Board of Visitors for Psychiatric Services.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony and a plaque signing by the minister.

The minister toured the new building and was briefed about the functions of the facilities. The building houses rooms for educational, rehabilitative and therapeutic activities for psychiatric patients.

The minister also visited the Psychiatric Ward. The Ministry of Health (MoH) thanked the Board of Visitors for the contribution that coincided with this year’s World Mental Health Day themed ‘Mental Health for All: Greater Investment, Greater Access’.

Contributions can help raise awareness, reduce stigma and show kindness towards those affected by mental health issues.

The MoH stated that there are various ways to obtain professional help for mental health issues including health clinics, Talian Harapan 145 and hospitals.

The ministry also encouraged the public to participate in the upcoming virtual run organised by the Psychiatric Services. Funds will be used to create a therapeutic garden for psychiatric patients. Registration is open until November 30 at https://ryserve.events/events/mentalhealthforall/.
