Badminton league resumes after eight-month absence

The National Badminton Team League Championship, organised by the Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Association (BDNBA), resumed after a near eight-month absence at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex recently.

Sports competitions took to the courts for the first time since badminton was included as one of six individual sports which is allowed to organise competitions as part of the updated guidelines.

Secretary General of BDNBDA Mohd Zuno Kartono bin Haji Ali said the competition, held in cooperation with the Department of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, resumed for the first time since March when the competition had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The competition will continue until the end of November in accordance to safety measures set by the authorities. It aims to find players who can join programmes and subsequently compete in regional or international competitions, such as SUKMA and Arafura as well as to strengthen closer ties among the badminton community.

Mohd Zuno Kartono said the Level 1 of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) course will be held from November 9 to 14.

Eight teams comprising 120 players are currently participating in the competition.
