70 learn about farming in weekend tour

Some 70 people spent their weekend visiting farms in the Brunei-Muara District. It was part of a package offered by Darussalam Travel and Tours to boost domestic tourism and showcase Brunei’s produce.

The group first visited Riza Fudhlana Farming at Tanah Tuah/Bebatik Kulapis Agricultural Development Area (KKP). Riza Fudhlana Farming owner Pengiran Haji Haris bin Pengiran Haji Duraman said the farm start as a small-scale operation and grew to become one of the main meat and chicken producers in the country.

The second visit was to Greenthumb Farms that grows oyster mushrooms. Owners Julian Chhan, Mohammad Baihaqey bin Pehin Shari and Jeremy Chhan welcomed the group. The visitors toured the farm and saw the cultivation process to the final packaging stage.

The final destination was BHB Enterprise that focussed on duck farming. Owner and manager of BHB Haji Bakar bin Haji Berudin said the farm produces 1,200 duck eggs a month. The operation started six years ago. He said the farm initially reared 18 ducks but it has grown to 4,000 ducks.
