Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah held a Doa Kesyukuran to mark its 28th anniversary yesterday. His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik attended the event in his capacity as Chairman of the Committee of Governors of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
The ceremony commenced with mass Zohor prayer, followed by a mass recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Doa Kesyukuran led by Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
Yayasan was established on October 5, 1992, in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne’s Silver Jubilee celebration. It serves as a charity platform for His Majesty and members of the royal family to demonstrate their care and solicitousness for the welfare of the country’s citizens and residents.
In his address, Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yayasan, said the presence of His Royal Highness reflects His Majesty’s concern and care towards all efforts undertaken by Yayasan in ensuring the welfare and well-being of citizens and residents, particularly the underprivileged.
“The welfare and well-being of the underprivileged community in this country is always given important consideration by His Majesty’s Government, together with the joint efforts of relevant stakeholder agencies, including Yayasan,” he said.
“Through Yayasan, the contributions of His Majesty and members of the royal family are being continuously channelled in several fields including religion, welfare, education and development. Alhamdulillah, it has brought meaningful impact and outcomes for the recipients.”
“The housing assistance granted to 22 recipients is a continuous project under the Yayasan Housing Assistance Scheme, in attending to the basic needs of the underprivileged community by providing them with a secure home as the basis for family well-being,” the minister said.
“The recipients and their families are very grateful for the assistance, as now they can continue to live in a more comfortable environment, while continuing to strive for their daily needs to enhance their quality of life. Alhamdulillah, within nearly three decades of its establishment, owing to the excellent leadership of His Majesty and in line with current challenges, Yayasan has undergone a paradigm shift in carrying out the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Strategic Plan of 2020-2025.
“The strategic plan will be used as a guiding principle in the implementation of a special scheme for the welfare and well-being of the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam, which is one of the goals of Brunei Vision 2035,” he added.
The minister said the Board of Directors and Management of Yayasan, in upholding His Majesty’s titah, together with the instructions and guidelines from His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, “is committed towards being more focussed and purposeful in shouldering trust, carrying out projects and initiatives with more efficiency, elevating approaches and networking in accordance with Yayasan’s vision of Masyarakat Mandiri, and in advancing His Majesty’s honourable objectives and contributions through the establishment of Yayasan.”
His Royal Highness received a pesambah in the form of a crystal ornament inscribed with the Islamic creed of faith (Syahadah) by a calligrapher from the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Centre for Islamic Art Studies and Calligraphy, together with a set of cups decorated with Islamic art designs. Both are products from the Semaun Shop located at the centre.
