Teen thief handed jail time

The Magistrate’s Court yesterday handed a sentence of three years and two months’ jail to an 18-year-old local youth after he pleaded guilty to six charges of theft in a building, mischief, thefts and trespass.

DPP Hajah Siti Mu’izzah binti Haji Sabli revealed in court that the defendant stole properties from inside the Housing Development Department in Tutong District at midnight on October 3.

He committed mischief on the same night by causing damage to the lock on the door of the building.

He also stole three prayer mats and a wheelbarrow from RPN Kampong Bukit Beruang Mosque at 3am on October 3.

Earlier on October 1 at 11am, he stole Fire and Rescue Department-issued axe and belt from a residence at Perumahan Bomba, Kampong Sungai Liang.

During the wee hours in September, he stole 56 boxes of matches from Darul Sofa Enterprise shop at Kampong Tumpuan Ugas Danau Tutong.

Sometime between August and September, he trespassed into a house on Jalan Bukit Bilid, RPN Kampong Bukit Beruang, Tutong.
