Talk raises awareness on mental health, dementia

Total E&P Borneo BV yesterday organised a health talk on dementia and mental health at Radisson Hotel in conjunction with World Mental Health Day, which falls on October 10 every year.

The event was aimed at fostering closer ties among employees and creating awareness on the importance of mental health, the company said in a statement.

Head of Geriatrics and Palliative Unit at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital and President of Demensia Brunei Dr Teo Shyh Poh and Deputy President of Demensia Brunei Irnawati binti Haji Mahir delivered a talk on dementia, while counsellor and motivational speaker from Clarity Sdn Bhd Hajah Norajleen Uminatul Hafizan binti Haji Alimas spoke on the subject of mental health.

According to recent statistics from the Ministry of Health (MoH), 7,000 Bruneians are being treated for mental illness every month.
