Suspect swallows lottery paper during gambling den raid

A permanent resident swallowed a paper containing 4D numbers during a raid at Kampong Luagan Timbaran in the Tutong District yesterday at 10.41am.

The raid with a search warrant was by a Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) officer and eight personnel from Tutong and Lamunin police stations.

The bookie was the unemployed 60-year-old permanent resident and a 50-year-old Filipina working as a maid is an abettor. The RBPF also found a 39-year-old Bangladeshi grass cutter believed to be a buyer.

Evidence seized included a mobile phone belonging to the maid with 4D numbers, a note pad that contained 4D numbers which was swallowed by the bookie during the raid and BND11.

The three suspects were issued a bail of BND1,000 with a local guarantor.

The case is being investigated under Section 4 of the Common Gaming Houses Act, Chapter 28 which brings a maximum fine of BND20,000 and 12 months’ imprisonment.
