The Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) has collected over BND500,000 in compound fines imposed on immigration offenders for committing offences under immigration acts and regulations from April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020.
The fines were issued during operations and inspections conducted by the INRD Law Enforcement Division such as Pumping Operations at several locations on Monday and Tuesday. On Tuesday, the operation targetted three different locations in Mukim Gadong ‘B’ and Mukim Kilanas.
During inspection at an unnumbered house in Kampong Mata-Mata, enforcement officers arrested a foreign man for failing to show valid documents during the inspection.
At the second location, a house with nine foreign men in Perpindahan Rakyat Jati Kampong Mata-Mata was inspected.
Five were detained and taken to the division for violating the Immigration Act and Regulations (Chapter 17). They failed to submit valid documents while one is a runaway from his employer.
A special pass was issued to report to the INRD’s Law Enforcement Division for further investigation.
Inspection at the last location in Kampong Kilanas led to the detention of five foreign nationals comprising three men and two women for running away from their employers and overstaying with expired immigration passes.
Enforcement officers also found several cartons of undeclared cigarettes in one room.
The case was transferred to the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) along with a person who admitted to owning the cigarette for further investigation and action.
In the Belait District, a similar operation was carried out in Panaga, Seria where three foreign men were inspected and issued special passes to report to the Law Enforcement Division, INRD Kuala Belait Branch for verification of passports for investigation under Immigration Act and Regulations (Chapter 17).
A foreign woman was arrested in a similar operation targetting stalls at a building project site under construction in Jalan Muara.
The woman was taken to the INRD’s Bandar Seri Begawan Law Enforcement Division for investigation under the Immigration Act and Regulations (Chapter 17).
