Sixteen locals and a foreign national were fined BND100 each by enforcement personnel from the Law Enforcement Unit of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department during an operation codenamed Operasi Bersih 18/2020 for disposing cigarette butts in public areas which is a violation under Section 12(1)(a) of Minor Offences Act, on October 28.
Enforcement personnel caught the offenders off-guard in alleyways in the capital during the operation which began at 11am.
The offenders are Mohammad Khairul Fahzlan bin Ismail Shadan, Lim Ming Jih, Awangku Mohammad Helmi Syariff bin Pengiran Shahminan, Dayangku Nurul Farisa binti Pengiran Jamaludin, Joan Woo Mei Yii, Eswandy bin Haji Asbinin, Siti Nurnazirah binti Suhali, Ira Wajeemah binti Haji Roslan, Sharifah Nurul Amalina binti Tengku Abdul Rahman, Mohd Ramadey Hazimin bin Haji Jahmin, Awangku Mohammad Nurul Hadzmie Aziman bin Pengiran Muhidin, Haji Muhammad Hairi bin Haji Amdan, Md Hanif bin Haji Jaafar, Awangku Md Najib bin Pengiran Haji Shaharuddin, Abdul Waie bin Shukor, Mohammad Abdul Syafiq bin Md Sabri and Kristopher John Geron Lim (Philippine national).
The offenders must settle their fines within seven days.
Failure to do so will result in a further fine of BND1,000, or a month’s imprisonment, for the first convicted offence.The penalty is a fine of BND3,000 and a prison term of up to three months for subsequent offences.
