Philippines’ COVID-19 cases inch closer to 320,000 with 2,674 new infections

MANILA (XINHUA) – The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 319,330 after the Department of Health (DoH) reported 2,674 new cases yesterday.

The DoH said that the number of recoveries also rose to 255,046 after 459 more patients had recovered. Meanwhile, 62 more patients died from the viral disease, bringing the death toll to 5,678.

The Philippines’ capital Metro Manila topped the regions in the country with the highest number of daily confirmed cases yesterday with 1,046.

The DoH said over 3.6 million people in the Philippines have been tested so far. The Philippines has a population of about 109 million.
