One company, two individuals fined for dumping, littering

One local company and two individuals were slapped with compound fines after they were caught by law enforcement personnel of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department for violating the Minor Offences Act by illegally dumping and littering in public spaces recently.

The company was fined BND200 for violating Section 12(1)(b) of the Minor Offences Act of leaving rubbish in public areas, while local Abdul Rahman bin Arif Soffian and Malaysian national Kamaruddin Lim Abdullah @ Lim Chee Kiong were fined BND100 for violating Section 12(1)(a) of the Minor Offences Act.

The offenders have to settle their fines within seven days at the Finance Division of the BSB Municipal Department or face a further fine of BND1,000 or a month’s imprisonment for the first convicted offence.

Subsequent offences would lead to a fine of BND3,000 and up to three months’ jail.

Business establishments as well as the public were also reminded to refrain from discarding rubbish in public areas.
