A 32-year-old local man, who pleaded guilty to charges of mischief and assault, was ordered by the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to settle a BND3,000 fine or serve three months’ jail in default of payment.
DPP Syafina Abdul Hadzid revealed in court that Muhammad Hairul Sumardi bin General, single and unemployed, was frustrated with his father at the family home in RPN Bukit Beruang, Tutong District at 4pm on May 5.
The defendant asked his 61-year-old father for BND5 but was turned down on the basis that the older man did not have money.
The rejection caused the defendant to lose his temper and slam the door shut. His father further angered his son by telling him off, leading the defendant to shove his father, causing him to fall on the floor and injure his head.
At 2pm on October 15, he ran amok at home, damaging his mother’s belongings out of frustration for not being able to locate the BND40 that his mother had given him earlier.
After he had calmed down, the defendant found the money in his wallet.
Magistrate Mohammad Marzuqi bin Sabtu presided over the case.
