Four retail shops in Kampong Delima and Gadong shopping complexes were fined during ‘Op Sanggah’ on Tuesday for violating the Employment Order 2009 – employers not providing job service contracts in writing to local workers and failure to provide leave on public holidays.

The operation aimed at ensuring employers comply with the Employment Order 2009.

For the offence of not providing job service contract in writing to the employee if convicted, the employer will face a BND600 fine for the first offence and BND900 for the second offence.

For failing to provide leave on public holidays, the Labour Department will issue a BND160 fine for the first offence and a BND320 fine for the second offence.

The Labour Department welcomed public cooperation in channelling information to combat violations of the Employment Order 2009 and safeguarding the wellbeing and welfare of local and foreign workers.

The department reminded employers to monitor employees’ welfare in accordance to the requirements of the Employment Order 2009 such as the preparation of employment contracts, timely payment of salaries and providing clean accommodation.

Employers are advised not to abuse the Foreign Worker Licence and violate the Act under the Employment Order 2009.
