The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Women’s Leadership Academy (WLA) recently concluded a Virtual Youth Programme highlighting women’s leadership.

The closing ceremony saw a certificate presentation by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin at Silaturrahim Hall, Youth Centre.

Throughout the three-week workshop from October 1-18, participants attended virtual and in-person workshops as well as the #IamRemarkable session – an initiative by Google to empower women and underrepresented groups to celebrate their achievements in the workplace and beyond. It was conducted by Atikah Amalina Zaini from Google based in Singapore.

Other talks included ‘Passion and Purpose’ by Nurul Hadina binti Haji Alias from MY Actions for SDGs and ‘Sexual Violence Against Men and Women in Brunei’ by Nurun Nasuha Yunus from RespectME. The participants and mentors also toured Ristaan Abadi in Kampong Bolkiah, where four women are leading entrepreneurial projects.

Project Lead and Brunei Country Lead at the YSEALI WLA Alumni Network 2020 Nazurah Noor said, “The programme helps participants realise their capabilities and enhance their leadership knowledge and skills, empowered by the support and collaboration between participants, speakers and the community. It also created a safe space and strong network of young women of various backgrounds.”
