The Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA) awarded winners of its essay writing competition at its premises in Kampong Kiarong yesterday.
Joined by KACA President Dato Paduka Haji Zainal bin Haji Momin, the event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by welcoming remarks from KACA Managing Director Haji Awang Abdul Alim bin Haji Awang Othman, during which he said an anonymous donor contributed additional prizes for the winners.
In the Year 4 category, Halimatun Sa’adiah @ Nurkhairina binti Jupprindi and Mohd Adri Nazrullah bin Mohd Khairolzapre of Al-Falaah School took the top two spots, with Dayangku Siti Adelia Ruhil Qudus binti Pengiran Haji Md Yusra of Amar Pahlawan Primary School in third place.
Dayangku Wajihah binti Pengiran Khairul Nazri of Stella’s School won the Year 5 category, and first and second runners-up were Muhammad Firas Asyrani bin Edrous of Raja Isteri Fatimah Primary School and Mohd Akhil Iman bin Abdullah Mohd Zakaria of Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait.
In the Year 6 category, Siti Nur Khazain Haziqah binti Haji Muhd Kaseh of PGGMB School Madang took the first place, followed by Muhammad Darwisy Zharfan bin Md Harlezam of Raja Isteri Fatimah Primary School and Chelsea Sandra binti Mohammad Ashrul of PGGMB School Madang.
Meanwhile, consolation prizes went to Chan Jia En of Chung Hua Middle School Kuala Belait, and Muhammad Daanish bin Ali Rahman and Nur Sabrina binti Jeffery of St John’s School, Kuala Belait.
The recently concluded competition was the fifth of its kind organised by KACA and drew the participation of Years 4-6 students from 32 schools. Organised to mark the centre’s 34th anniversary, the competition saw contestants detailing steps in helping students with special needs in a bid to promote inclusivity in the school environment.
