Course sharpens Scouts’ skills

The Brunei Darussalam Scout Association (PPNBD) through its National Scout Training Team held a three-day Basic Wood Badge Course for the Cub Scouts and Junior Scouts sections at the Conference Hall of the PPNBD Headquarters, Jalan Gadong recently.

Scout Chief Commissioner Haji Awang Badar bin Haji Awang Ali was the guest of honour.

The Scout Chief Commissioner presented a special scarf of the Manikayu Basic Course to two course directors and seven representatives of course participants.

The course was divided into two phases where the first phase was a theory module, while the second phase, a practical training.

The first phase contains seven sessions for the module 1 and was held on September 27 while seven sessions to be for the module 2 on October 11. The second phase, a camping event, is estimated to be held in early December for three days and two nights.

The course’s purpose is to provide basic theoretical and practical training in training skills and Scouts method in the Scout Movement as well as to encourage new Scout Team Leaders and Assistant Leaders to be active and knowledgeable in carrying out duties to prospective Scout Leaders, Assistant Scout Leaders and Rover Scout.

A total of 14 course participants for the Cub Scouts section and 23 participants for the Junior Scout section comprising District Scout Commissioners, Assistant District Scout Commissioners, Scout Leaders, Assistant Scout Leaders and Rover Scout members nationwide participated.

At the learning session in module 1, course participants were given the opportunity to prepare presentations as well as practical skills training work sessions including introductory coaching sessions, neatness and fitness, history sessions of the Scouting movements around the world and in Brunei Darussalam, Scout Promise and Scout Laws sessions, Scout Principle, Aim and Method – Scout mission and vision, Safe from Harm session, Messenger of Peace session, and the role and responsibilities session as a leader.

The course followed the Ministry of Health’s guidelines on COVID-19.

Scout Training Commissioner Haji Othman bin Durani, Secretary of National Scout Training Team Zainudin bin Haji Ishak, Course Director for Cub Scout section Ronnie bin Siabu, Course Director for Junior Scout section Mohammad Sharin bin Haji Suhaili, along with session presentors Burhanuddin bin Haji Mohd Daud, Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Ahmad, Ritchie bin Siabu, Mohammad bin Haji Suhaili, Haji Mohammad Paizzal bin Haji Piluk, Norfaezah binti Masri, Liyana binti Salleh as well as seven course mentors were the Scout Leader Trainers who aided in the course’s module 1.
