Twenty-seven teachers received awards this year. Two teachers received awards for 40 years of service, nine received certificates and medals for 20 years of service, 10 for 10 years of service and six teachers for five years of service. Principal of Chung Hwa Middle School, Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Kho Guik Lan received Overseas Excellent Teacher Award, the highest honour for overseas Mandarin teachers.

Lee said, “Principal Kho is one of 10 recipients worldwide this year and the first and only one from Brunei Darussalam. It is not only an affirmation for Principal Kho’s passion, enthusiasm and dedication for the past 41 years to education and the promotion of Mandarin teaching and traditional Chinese culture, but also an honour to all Chinese schools in Brunei.”

The biennial Overseas Excellent Teacher Award is organised by the Overseas Chinese Culture and Education Foundation, entrusted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission. Forty-eight senior teachers from 18 countries passed the preliminary review and 10 out of them were selected through a series of reviews and votings.
