The Enforcement Division of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board issued a BND200 compound fine to a bookstore in Kuala Belait yesterday.

The bookstore overstepped its business premises by placing goods on the public sidewalk in front of the store on Jalan Pretty.

The Enforcement Division of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board stated that the items placed on the sidewalk in front of the store inconvenienced pedestrians passing through the area, and hence a compound fine was issued under the violation of the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30, Section 12(1)(a).

The company was given seven days to settle the fine. Failure to settle the fine will take the matter to the courts.

If found guilty, the accused will be handed a BND1,000 fine or one month’s imprisonment.
Subsequent offences will see a penalty of BND3,000 or imprisonment of not more than three months.
