Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) has announced that effective November 2, BND10,000 currency notes will no longer be issued to all banks in the country and be withdrawn from circulation.
However, the BND10,000 currency notes will remain legal tender and retain full face value.
The decision to withdraw the BND10,000 currency note is one of the steps taken by AMBD to reduce the risks associated with financial crimes such as money laundering, terrorism financing and counterfeiting of high denomination currency notes.
AMBD encourages the public to use alternative payment methods available in Brunei Darussalam such as debit or credit cards and online payments for high value transactions.
AMBD remains committed to the financial stability of Brunei Darussalam and to safeguard Brunei Darussalam’s financial system and the interests of financial consumers.
