Ambassador samples Temburong’s favourites

Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Christopher B Montero joined Brunei Food Awards (BFA) as a special judge for the food judging event in the Temburong District yesterday.

The first stop was at Stoneville Hotel in Pekan Bangar, where the Philippine ambassador was treated to a live cooking demonstration on Temburong’s favourite udang galah, before proceeding to evaluate the hotel’s Tom Yam Udang Galah dish.

The next stops were A9 Cafe in Pekan Bangar to sample the popular Burger Udang Galah and Hizdayani Restaurant to try out the Udang Galah Masak Kampong dish.

The final stop was to Kampong Senukoh Community Hall, where the ambassador enjoyed a scenic view of the river while enjoying more Temburong delicacies that included Cendol from The Kindul, Ayam Tajau from Pasulicious, Nasi Opeh from Syarikat Ahad bin Haji Tengah and Wajid from Perusahaan Mozulina Dan Anak Anak.

The BFA is a new annual food and beverage award that formally recognises and awards the best dishes and drinks from all four districts. The awarding of food includes (but is not limited to) ambuyat, nasi lemak, roti canai, nasi biryani, sushi, dim sum, chicken rice, steaks from various other local and international cuisines, including Brunei, Malaysia, Pakistani, Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Italian and Western.

The BFA initiative is supported by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) and Brunei Association of Hotels (BAH). Award winners will be invited to attend the BFA ceremony and will be recognised nationally as having the best dishes in Brunei.

In collaboration with BAH, the BFA will host a presentation of the Brunei Food Awards 2020 initiative at the MPRT on October 22 at 8.30am. The event will include two other agendas by the Manpower Industry Steering Committee (MISC) Hospitality and Tourism sector of the Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) and the prospective establishment of the Brunei Darussalam Food & Beverage Executives Association.

Restaurant owners, managers and food vendors are invited to participate in the BFA 2020.
