Lim Jin Yee, Norfariz Awang Sayang and Aminuddin Zakwan bin Haji Tahir were added to the shortlist of potential international players after receiving call-ups for national team training at the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) Football Field.
Indera SC midfielder Aminuddin Zaqwan featured at the international level with six appearances while Norfariz and Lim received their first call-ups under head coach Mohammad Ali bin Mustafa.
Aminuddin joined club teammates Mohd Khairil Shahme Suhaimi, Mohd Amin Sisa and Hamizan Aziz for training, which commenced last Friday.
Wijaya FC forward Norfariz was rewarded with a call-up following an impressive start in the interrupted Brunei Super League (BSL) having contributed a brace to his side in the 2-1 win against FA Cup finalists MS PPDB. The striker has proven to be one of the key figures in the Ong Sum Ping-based club after challenging the Golden Boot last season, which was eventually won by Md Hadif Aiman bin Adanan.
Norfariz emerged as one of the newcomers in the national team alongside club teammate Awangku Ashraf bin Pengiran Haledi, who is one of three goalkeepers.
Kasuka FC teenage star Aisan Aizuddin Abdullah Aiman is the youngest member to receive a call-up at 18 while Sairol bin Sahari is the oldest. Aisan Aizuddin scored a senior goal for his club during a 4-2 win against Indera SC in the Brunei Super League.
Sairol, who made his international debut in 2003, returned to international football last year and was made captain during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mongolia. NFABD Technical Director Sivaji Narayan has made an initiative to set up a national team for future competitions with the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup set to be staged next April.
Among the players who have yet to make an international appearance that have received call-ups are Kasuka FC defender Nazhan Zulkifle, Indera SC Mohd Amin Sisa, and Kasuka FC forward Hanif Aiman Adanan.
Aside form Mohammad Ali, the coaching team includes assistant coaches Haji Mohammad Halimi bin Haji Abu Bakar and Haji Zainuddin Kasim as well as fitness coach Pengiran Sallehuddin bin Pengiran Damit and goalkeeper coach Sabri bin Haji Ismail.
The national team training, which is part of a search for potential players, resumes tonight.
