Three embrace Islamic faith

Two Iban siblings from the Tutong District, 14-year-old Mexwell anak Nyabang and his 17-year-old sister, Anisah anak Nyabang embraced Islam during a conversion ceremony at the residence of Haji Mohammad Isa bin Haji Marsidi in Kampong Keriam yesterday.

Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar was the guest of honour.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by the declaration of the Syahadah by Anisah who chose the name Siti Aisyah Al-Humaira binti Abdullah Nyabang followed by her brother who chose Ahmad Nabihan bin Abdullah Nyabang as his Muslim name, guided by officers from the Tutong District Dakwah Unit, Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI).

A Doa Selamat was read by the Imam of Kampong Keriam Mosque to bless the ceremony.

The event concluded with the minister presenting souvenirs from PDI.

Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Haji Umarali bin Esung, Deputy State Mufti Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin, PDI Director Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Assistant PDI Director Abdul Aziz bin Haji Abdul Kahar and Acting Penghulu of Mukim Keriam Haji Burhanuddin bin Haji Hashim were also present.

Meanwhile, another conversion ceremony took place in the Brunei-Muara District at the residence of Haji Mohd Hussein bin Abdul Rahman in RPN Kampong Lambak.

A 32-year-old Filipino woman, Esperanza Junio Prado recited her Syahadah guided by officers from the PDI.

She has chosen the name Nur Aqilah Junio binti Abdullah.

A Doa Selamat to bless the ceremony concluded the ceremony.

From January to August 2020, 82 people have converted to Islam in the Tutong District while 122 were from the Brunei-Muara District.
