Boxing enthusiasts were able to gain an enhanced understanding of the sport following the first day of the Boxing and Seminar Clinic conducted by local sensation Muhammad ‘Irfan bin Haji Abdul Razak at Fitness Zone in Kiulap yesterday.

In partnership with Fitness Zone, the seminar titled ‘Knock Out with ‘Irfan’ aimed to provide age inclusive coaching sessions that covers a comprehensive training on foundational boxing technique that will unleash an individual’s physical and mental power.

Muhammad ‘Irfan said, “I am the first Bruneian to get noticed and signed with the Mayweather family, a world class boxing team. It’s really something unheard of, me, a simple man from a small town in a small country making it this far.”

“So I am very blessed and I want to fully utilise it by giving back to society. I want to help to pave the way for the next generation of Bruneian bred boxers. This seminar I believe will be a very good beginning as it will educate people about boxing.”

Brunei’s international superstar Wu Chun highlighted the benefits of boxing and hoped Muhammad ‘Irfan can lead the way in promoting the sport in the country.

“We really want people to experience the amazing benefits of the sport from Brunei’s very own boxing pride trained by one of the best coaches in the world,” said Wu Chun who is also the Managing Director of Fitness Zone.

“We also want Irfan to be the right influencer to promote boxing further in Brunei,” he added.

He made an appearance in an exclusive sparring session with Muhammad ‘Irfan, who is known for his moniker “The Brawler of Brunei”.

Meanwhile, Jeff Mayweather, Muhammad’s Irfan’s coach remarked, “This seminar will help with learning the basic fundamentals of boxing.”

“We will actually teach you how to box and it will also give you the desire to use boxing workouts to keep you in shape and hopefully it will motivate people to have the knowledge of protecting themselves.”

“I truly thank Muhammad Irfan for making this possible and looking forward to one day coaching him in person. He is a very skilled fighter with good credentials and can one day bring a title belt back to his country under our guidance,” he added.

One of the highlights of the seminar was a Zoom meeting with Dan Rose, Muhammad ‘Irfan’s strength and conditioning and mental coach.

The coach said that great athletes think differently than the average person. “Great athletes are in their own class. They do not think the same as the normal person.”
