The Museums Department organised a visit for 29 participants of the ‘Basic Workshop on Preservation of Manuscript and Digitalisation’ at the Borneo Research Centre (PenBorneo) in Anggerek Desa.
The visit served to share with participants the manuscript material collections and the basic preservation procedures at PenBorneo.
The visit began with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah. History Officer Mardiah binti Haji Ramli discussed the manuscript collection, while History Officer Muhammad Hefni bin Mahari spoke on the preservation of manuscript record. The participants toured the record storage material collection and observed a demonstration on basic manuscript preservation.
Speaking to the Bulletin, Muhammad Hefni highlighted the importance of manuscript preservation as it is the main source for researchers studying Borneo’s history. He expressed hope that participants would gain knowledge they can apply in their departments and institutions through the visit.
Participants included officials from the Brunei History Centre, Language and Literature Bureau, Department of Survey, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, Ministry of Defence, Public Service Department, Islamic Da’wah Centre, Attorney General’s Chambers, Department of Adat Istiadat Negara and Prime Minister’s Office.
