Session sheds light on smart consumer culture

The Department of Competition and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) of the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE) hosted an advocacy session entitled ‘Menanam Budaya Pengguna Bijak di Negara Brunei Darussalam’ (Instilling Smart Consumer Culture in Brunei Darussalam) at the Faculty of Economy and Islamic Finance (FEKIm) of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) yesterday.

Dean of FEKIm Dr Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani; lecturers from FEKIm as well as Year 1 to Year 4 students from the Bachelor of Business Management programme and final year students from the Bachelor of Islamic Finance Science undergoing entrepreneurship project were present.

DCCA Senior Economy Officer ‘Izzul Azam bin Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Roselan and Economic Officer Mohammad Hazman bin Haji Alim delivered the briefing.

The session aimed to enhance awareness to students on consumer rights, including the use of the Pengguna Bijak mobile application that can help in making wise and prudent spending decisions.

It also served to highlight the Pengguna Bijak culture, to empower consumers to carry out their responsibilities and practise their rights when spending and to promote sustainable consumption towards building a healthy business climate in achieving dynamic and resilient economic goals as intended in the Brunei Vision 2035.

The one-and-half-hour session began with the introduction on DCCA’s roles and responsibilities, followed by a briefing on consumer rights, Consumer Protection Order (Fair Trade) 2011, and the practical use of the Pengguna Bijak mobile application through its Price Comparison feature.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session.
