Religious ceremony marks World Maritime Day 2020

The Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) held a religious event to mark the World Maritime Day 2020 at the Brunei International Airport (BIA) Surau yesterday.

Mass Maghrib and Sunnat Hajat prayers were held followed by a Doa Kesyukuran. The event also marked the third anniversary of MPABD since its establishment on September 28, 2017.

Present was Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Directors of MPABD.

The mass prayers were led by Acting Imam of the BIA Surau Mohamad Alihan bin Abusamah, who also led the recitation of Surah Yaasiin.

This year’s celebration is themed ‘Sustainable Shipping for a Sustainable Planet’, chosen by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to raise awareness on the Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations and showcases the work that the IMO and its member states are undertaking to achieve its targets.

The World Maritime Day is celebrated every September 24.

Permanent secretaries and deputy permanent secretaries at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), Chief Executive of MPABD, members of MPABD Board of Directors, senior officers at the MTIC and staff members of MPABD were also present.
