The Brunei Darussalam Scout Association (PPNBD) hosted a media appreciation event at The Rizqun International Hotel yesterday.

Among the invited guests were senior officials as representatives of Acting Director of Radio Television Brunei (RTB), Acting Director of Youth and Sports and Acting Director of Information.

PPNBD deputy presidents, secretary general, chairpersons of district scouts council and chief scouts commissioner as well as members of the National Scout Council, the Scout Foundation Advisory Board, the National Scout Executive Committee of the Scout Foundation Administrative Committee Decorative and Disciplinary Committee Commissioner’s Council were also present.

The ceremony began with the recitations of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by welcoming remarks from PPNBD President Haji Matusin bin Orang Kaya Sura Haji Tuba.

Haji Matusin, in his speech, expressed his belief that mass media plays an important role in disseminating scouting programmes to the community, such as jamboree and camping as well as scouting seminars and workshops.

Yesterday’s event, he said, was the association’s way of showing gratitude towards the media for promoting the scouts movement in the country.

He also attributed the decades of scouts presence in Brunei Darussalam to media support in maintaining its relevance.

“Without the media, where would PPNBD be?” the president said, adding that the advent of digital media has allowed for even more efficient spread of scouts activities among members of the public.

Meanwhile, a video depicting the association’s journey and developments in the country was presented before tokens of appreciation plaques were handed to media representatives at the event.
